Name: Soldier, alias Soldge Age: Three Sex: Male Species/Breed: Pit bull x Doberman Pinscher Appearance: Personality: History: When Rose went into heat again, all she could think about was finding a mate, because as each heat went by, she would still find herself alone, a guard dog whose pups, especially if purebred, would certainly make fine guards for others. As the males began to follow her, Rose found that there was only one she really admired enough to choose him: a large Doberman Pinscher, whom she had seen around town many times before...with other females. But that didn't stop Rose...as not so long after, she had a litter of puppies.
Her owner was a man who thought of nothing but money and his marijuana, which was why he had bought Rose in the first place. She quickly became his favourite dog he'd ever owned, though he was angry when he saw that his only guard had given birth. But his anger didn't last long: he soon noticed that several of the pups had markings close to that of a purebred Doberman, and others with the marks of a purebred pit bull. And so, he decided he was going to sell them, and he had a man come in to dock the puppies' tails and crop their ears.
But as they were put up for sale, there were no takers. No one wanted a bunch of mutt pups, and so, the man was forced to send Rose and her litter onto the streets, leaving them near the train tracks as he headed off to buy himself another dog, which would end up being a male so that he wouldn't have to run into this situation again.
As the puppies began crying, and Rose whined as she watched the van roll off into the distance, their lives really began. Humans? No. Rose would raise her puppies here, on the streets.
And she did. But as they grew older, she noticed one of them was...well, slightly insane. He tried chewing on many of his siblings, not to start a fight, but merely out of something like frustration. Not only on his siblings, but the pup also had a tendency to chew on himself. Frightened and confused by these strange behaviours, Rose left the pup all alone.
The pup, at this point, was old enough to fend for himself...and he continued to live on the streets until he was a year old. At that point, the dog was quite sure that he was in love with a two-year old female, and so he began to pursue her when she went in heat. Rejection soon followed, and the dog became so frustrated with himself that he began to pick up the old habit of chewing on himself. He chewed on his leg, ignoring the pain as he tore at the muscles and flesh, but at last, he fell asleep.
This couldn't have been worse timing to take a nap. Another stray had seen the mutt lying their with the open wound, and had decided that this would be an easy kill. Jaws wide, it continued what the mutt had begun, and made the dog wake up. A fight broke out, and the pit bull mix soon found himself with a broken leg. That was when a voice cried out, and the other dog scurried away.
A young human girl rushed out of the family van, yelling for her family to come. And they did; the mutt, eyes clouded with blood (both his and the other's), could vaguely see two males and two females, and felt them pick up his large body. He didn't object...there was little he could do without help, and he was quite sure that these humans were helping him.
The rest of the night was a blur, but the humans took the dog to the vet, who, after looking at the wound and broken leg, told them it would have to be amputated. They agreed that they would take in the stray, and that they would have the operation done.
They named the dog Soldier, because they were quite sure that surviving wounds like that made him one. And so, after the amputation, Soldier came home to live with the family. A full year he spent with them, and he came to have a more common name around the house: Soldge.
But after that year of happiness, life became unfair yet again and came around to hurt Soldge once more. The humans began to pack up a number of their belongings into boxes, and when he took a walk with the young girl, she sat beside him for a moment. "I'm sorry, Soldge. This is just how it is." Those words would be etched into Soldge's memory forever...and would change his life.
Clouds gathered overhead that night, and a storm broke out. A man arrived at the door, and in a flash Soldge was being driven along in the back of a pickup truck. Away from the one place he would ever have called home.
